Academic Insight
California College of the Arts Founded in 1907, California College of the Arts (CCA) is noted for the interdisciplinarity and breadth of its programs. It offers studies in 21 undergraduate and seven graduate majors in the areas of fine arts, architecture, design, and writing. The college offers bachelor of architecture, bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts, master of architecture, master of arts, master of fine arts, and master of business administration degrees. With campuses in San Francisco and Oakland, CCA currently enrolls 1,800 full-time students. Noted alumni include the painters Nathan Oliveira and Raymond Saunders; the ceramicists Robert Arneson, Viola Frey, and Peter Voulkos; the filmmaker Wayne Wang; the conceptual artists David Ireland and Dennis Oppenheim; and the designers Lucille Tenazas and Michael Vanderbyl. Digital Pickle scans and restores photos, slides and negatives in any format and size. We convert (and enhance) any video and audio to digital media in any required format, we transfer and restore 8mm and 16mm to digital media in high definition, we produce DVD slide shows, photo books, and many photo gifts. We perform commercial digital imaging services including video production and post-production services, document scanning - both standard and delicate handling, CD/DVD duplication, and conversion to digital records of large archives.
The East Bay Regional Park District spans Alameda and Contra Costa counties east of San Francisco with over 112,000 acres in 65 parks including over 1,200 miles of trails for walking, hiking, biking, horseback riding and nature study. The Park District manages lakes, shorelines, campgrounds, visitor centers, interpretive and recreation programs, picnic areas, indoor and outdoor rental facilities, golf courses, and more. The award-winning Trails Challenge Program is a popular self-guided hiking, biking, and walking program with thousands of participants each year. Firelight Media is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing talented documentary filmmakers who tell stories about people, places, cultures and issues that are underrepresented in the mainstream media. Firelight Media’s flagship program is the Producers’ Lab, a mentorship program for emerging producers of color. Participating producers work with award-winning filmmaker, Stanley Nelson and a team of senior producers, writers, editors, new media, and fundraising specialists to complete their projects for a national broadcast. Mable Haddock spearheads this exciting project as Director. Haddock served as founding President and CEO of the National Black Program Consortium (NBPC) for 25 years. Firelight Media started the Producers’ Lab as a way to provide infrastructure support for producers of color to help overcome some of the barriers to completing their film or video. Firelight Media was founded in 1998 as an independent non-profit production company and has been best known for producing high-quality powerful productions for PBS and its dynamic educational outreach campaigns. However, in 2008, Firelight Media expanded its work to include developing and supporting the next generation of filmmakers. Due to this expansion, Firelight productions spearheaded by Stanley Nelson are now done under a new entity called Firelight Films.

Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts (MCCLA) was established in 1977 by artists and community activists with a shared vision to promote, preserve and develop the Latino cultural arts that reflect the living tradition and experiences of the Chicano, Central and South American, and Caribbean people. MCCLA makes the arts accessible as an essential element to the community's development and well-being.
SOMArts is an independent nonprofit that operates the South of Market Cultural Center, one of four city-owned cultural facilities in San Francisco. SOMArts’ mission is to promote and nurture art on the community level and foster an appreciation of and respect for all cultures.
