Edible City by Andrew Hasse

"Edible City"

The world is facing a dire food crisis. Since the beginning of 2006, average global food prices have skyrocketed. Massive, vertically integrated agribusiness—reliant upon fossil fuels and committed to maximizing crop production at any cost—controls the world’s food supply. Currently, over 35 million Americans are ranked as “very food insecure” by the USDA.

Edible City will explore issues of food security, sovereignty, and justice through a comprehensive view of Bay Area urban farming movements. By looking at everything from backyard gardens to city farms, we will meet a fascinating and diverse group of people who are taking control of their food and reaching out to their communities. Edible City will tie their struggles to the systemic problems plaguing our food infrastructure, economy, and environment, suggesting solutions that are large-scale and local, institutional and individual.
