I remember going to BAVC’s first building, when they were on Potrero Hill, and the first classes they offered. This was when video was expanding from a recording medium to a storytelling medium and documentary format all its own.

The Poetry Center 's video archive, based at San Francisco State University, began its active life in 1973 when then-Director Kathleen Fraser began to formalize Center's archival recordings — audiotapes had been made of nearly all original readings since 1954.

If you missed Dark Room, the summer screening by students in BAVC’s advanced video production program, The Factory, you can still watch the films online. What you won’t be able to experience was the amazing ambiance of the Roxie’s large theater, free slices donated by Goat Hill Pizza and the most delicious juices and smoothies donated by Voila! Juice Co., and the voices of the filmmakers themselves reflecting on their work.

On Friday I had the privilege of accompanying our G:URL Gamers and their amazing instructors Regis and Amy to their final presentation at Zynga. The students have been working for the past two weeks to create their own games, which they shared with a group of female engineers, designers, project managers and programmers.
