The Digital Marketing Specialist develops and deploys tactics to support the Museum’s digital communications strategies. He or she coordinates internal digital support for new exhibitions, apps, seasonal marketing campaigns, and the website. In addition the position monitors and redirects web-based communications. The DM Specialist will create and manage digital communications calendar for social media, website, newsletters, and museum blog.

Responsibilities 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
• Work with internal team, external agency, and contractors to develop integrated digital marketing plans for marketing campaigns.
• Develops and implements comprehensive digital marketing strategy for exhibitions, seasonal marketing campaigns, public programs, and events in collaboration with the marketing, social media, and PR teams.
• Develops digital marketing communications content including copy, photos, video clips etc. that can be shared via our online and mobile vehicles including Pinterest, Tumbler, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and YouTube and the museum blog
• Responsible for developing and driving the museum’s internal strategy for paid search, SEO, and PPC to support ticket sales, marketing campaigns, and content marketing.
• Drive and coordinate tickets, campaigns and branded PPC, and SEM/SEO activities, including working with different third party vendors that support the Exploratorium.
• Execute and support digital initiatives in the areas of user experience (including web), personalization, SEO, SEM, email marketing and emerging social media trends and capabilities to foster internal participation as well as prospect and visitor and member engagement.
• Ongoing support to Marketing Project Manager to help execute email campaigns, email newsletters, and lead best practice in email marketing, analytics and development.
• Ensure all digital initiatives and activities make a measurable impact and are consistent with overall marketing strategy via goal tracking, analytics and reporting.
• Develops new partnerships internal and external to help increase fanbase, awareness about the museum and increase traffic to our networks
• Establish and monitor metrics to track online campaign performance, including A/B testing of content and/or design for these campaigns.

OTHER DUTIES
• Serve as subject matter expert on best practice in each digital channel and maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and trends.
• Ongoing support to the Associate Director of Marketing Programs

Qualifications 

• B.A. required, preferably in marketing or marketing communications. Minimum 3-4 years’ experience in digital marketing and content management.
• Knowledge of digital marketing tactics, including email, website development, user experience enhancement, database maintenance, and basic html.
• Strong writing skills a must.
• Strong analytical skills and experience with web and email analytic programs such as Google Analytics.
• Ability to turn analysis into action and execute against timelines.
• Experience using Web Content Management, Marketing Automation (ExactTarget) Systems, CRM (Salesforce.com) and Analytics (Google Analytics).
• Experience in SEO and SEM.
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to take initiative, multi-task and prioritize multiple projects.
• Meticulous attention to detail and an eye for consistency.
• Resourceful with the ability to work independently and in a cross functional team.
• Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
