Matriarch is a documentary series that follows the life of four women in four matriarchal communities around the world. We plan to follow these women for three years, and are in the first year of production. This internship is a unique opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student who is eager to gain hands-on early post-production experience in an entrepreneurial environment.

The position is for two months, with the opportunity of extension. We are looking for someone to work 16 hours a week, in person in Potrero Hill. This internship will provide college credit (please identify a suitable class that will enable that)—as well as lunch and a stipend of $900 for the internship period.

Activities You’ll Support and Learn From:
• Editing workflow for a long-form documentary series: review, organize, log, rename and tag raw footage
• Essential post-production tasks for a multi-language documentary: identify and export footage for transcription/translation needs, manage and sync multiple audio sources to video
• Early editing: identify“hotlines/hot moments” in the footage, put together assemblies for scenes
• Exposure to other production activities for a holistic understanding of independent filmmaking
• Anticipate and prepare for production needs in a foreign country
• Grant writing: identify the right grants for our project, prepare a winning application, and get the feedback we need to refine submissions
• Fundraising pitches: identify and reach out to private sponsors and investors, develop pitch and ask

What We Require:
• Ideal majors: Film Production and Editing, with interest in independent production environments
• Attention to detail: while we’re independent in spirit and resourcefulness, our production values and ambitions are high
• Driven self-starter: we trust team members to be motivated and responsible for getting the job done without someone breathing over their shoulder!
• Final Cut editing skills a plus (but not required)
• Creative, proactive and persevering—resourceful in finding solutions and problem-solving
