Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) is a 43-year old community media organization located in San Francisco serving over 7,500 freelancers, filmmakers, jobseekers, activists and artists ever year, from teens to seniors in the Bay Area and across the country. BAVC provides access to media making technology, storytelling workshops, services and resources to a diverse and engaged community of independent makers and producers, and nonprofit organizations.

BAVC seeks a part-time (14 hours per week) member of our team to serve nonprofit organizations and independent video producers who create content for the City of San Francisco’s two public access channels, 29 and 76. In addition to assisting those groups, the Equipment Coordinator will oversee all production equipment and the public rental of gear, as well as assist on production shoots and support post-production for in-house projects.

  • Maintain all production gear for SF Commons and BAVC Productions
  • Repair simple fixes and send gear out for repair, as needed
  • Ensure that all gear is in working order, stored properly and is ready for action
  • Conduct rental transactions with SF Commons producers following check-in and check-out protocols
  • Assist producers working at BAVC with issues concerning post-production and file management
  • Act as DP or assistant DP on BAVC productions
  • Organize media for post-production and edit video, as needed
  • Contribute to Transmission, BAVC’s original monthly television program
  • Contribute to the success of the department’s goals

General Requirements

  • Sincere commitment to working collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, program participants, and community members
  • Highly organized and systems-oriented
  • Able to take direction as well as have the ability to work independently
  • Passion for encouraging community content creation and collaboration

Technical Requirements

  • Competency with a variety of video and audio production equipment
  • Strong ability to problem-solve in a collaborative environment
  • At least one year experience shooting video in the field and in studio settings either professionally or independently
  • Familiarity with lighting equipment and professional lighting strategies
  • Familiarity with audio equipment and field sound practices, tripods, chimeras, and other production gear
  • At least 6 months experience editing with Adobe Premiere Pro and/or DaVinci Resolve


  • $22 per hour, 14 hours per week (hours to be determined)
  • Complimentary enrollment in BAVC classes
  • Paid sick time

High use of computers and related equipment is required. Various types of equipment/supplies are used to accomplish the job requirements and include, but are not limited to, video and editing equipment, instruction supplies, computers, classroom materials, telephones and other common communication devices.
