Digital Storytelling

Digital Storytelling

From its inception, BAVC has championed storytelling as a powerful way to create social change. As technologies change, it is the stories that remain at the heart of our mission.

We believe that in the process of articulating and crafting one’s own story, individuals develop vital critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills that serve as a foundation for personal transformation and healing. We also believe that telling stories can inspire maker and audience alike to take positive action within their own families and the community at-large. And stories can be powerful advocacy tools for systems level changes in the community, often clearly showing how various interpersonal, social, economic and political factors shape our lives.

Here | Now

The following digital stories grew out of a 14 week collaboration between men in Resolve to Stop the Violence Project (RSVP), majors in the USF Performing Arts and Social Justice Department and the Bay Area Video Coalition - SF Stories. The class was an opportunity to develop and create personal artistic expressions, using one’s own voice and style in music, movement, writing, theater and visual images. Support provided by the San Francisco Arts Commission.
