Why is BAVC important to me?
Growing up in Omaha, Nebraska in the 70’s, I watched with fascination as my best friend’s mom started several successful businesses at a time when being an entrepreneur was practically unheard of for a woman. Looking back now I realize how fortunate I was to see someone who looked like me; doing what I wanted to do and being who I wanted to be when I grew up. If you can see it, you can be it. I believe we can intentionally create more opportunities through storytelling, film, and art to widen the spectrum of possibilities for everyone. BAVC is important to me because it is life changing to see someone who looks like you doing what you want to do. That is why we are investing in media makers to create the social change required to diversify the stories that get told and the storytellers who tell them.
