Michael has been a technology pioneer in the Bay Area for the past 40 years. Much of his career has been focused on building tools for creative professionals. He was a member of a small team that created the first digital paint and animation systems for video at Aurora Systems in San Francisco and later went on to lead the Final Cut and Aperture teams at Apple. Michael also led the development of research tools for reporters at American Public Media funded by the Knight foundation and was a founder of a startup that developed a unique 3D interactive collaborative learning game for PBS Kids. More recently Michael worked at Intel and later Salesforce building and managing large engineering teams creating advanced mobile apps for both consumer health and commercial enterprise use.

With a strong commitment to public education Michael also founded a 3D Animation elective program at Oakland Tech High School that is an “F” Accredited Pathways program now in its eighth year at OTHS. The Mission of this program is to give underserved Oakland students access and training in industry standard professional design and animation tools. The program now has a deep curriculum built around Maya, Photoshop, After Effects and SketchbookPro. Michael was also one of the founders of Ride For A Reason, dedicated to raising awareness regarding the lack of funding for California public schools. R4R has raised over a million dollars for ten Oakland public schools in the past ten years.

Michael is presently working on an exhibition of large format photographic prints exploring commercial visual “Urban Artifacts” that canvas our city environments. He is also a member of the advisory board of Oakland not-for-profit, YouthBeat dedicated to life changing media training for Oakland youth.
