Official Policy & Rules

Please familiarize yourself with the policies and rules before coming to your scheduled Edit Lab session.

BAVC Media Edit Lab Policy

  • Edit Lab hours:
    • The Edit Lab is accessible on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 9:45 am to 4:45 pm.
    • These hours may be expanded depending on our capacity and community interest.
  • For first-time edit lab users, there will be a brief orientation to cover the rules, give a tour of the space, and answer any questions that may arise.
  • Members have two free sessions (two booking days) in the Edit Lab per month.
    • For additional edit lab days, exceeding the two free bookings per month, the edit lab can be booked for $25/hour

BAVC Media Edit Lab Rules and Procedures:

  • When arriving at the Ninth Street Independent Film Center, tap the digital buzzer, go to the Directory, and dial BAVC Media (105). The lab monitor will open the door for you.
  • Check in with the Edit Lab monitor upon arrival and departure.
  • Only drinks with lids will be allowed in the Edit Lab. The lobby and room 105 are the designated food areas, please refrain from snacking in the Edit Lab.
  • When using the kitchenette and couches, please be respectful. This means cleaning up after yourself and keeping noise to a minimum, as this is a working office space.
  • You must wear headphones while editing. Please refrain from having phone calls in the lab while there are other editors present.
  • If you’re editing content that could be deemed visually obscene, (ex. graphic violence, nudity, sexual acts, etc.) let us know in advance so we can accommodate your needs by emailing membership@bavc.org. Otherwise, please keep it PG-13 as the Edit Lab is a public space.
  • You must edit off of your personal SSD or hard drive. Do not save anything to the desktop as BAVC Media is not responsible for the deletion of files left on the computer.
  • Sessions must be booked in advance; no walk-ins.
  • If you’re more than 30 minutes late for your session without notice, your booking may be forfeited. Repeated no-shows may result in loss of Edit Lab access.
  • The Edit Lab monitor is there to oversee the space and assist with basic troubleshooting, but cannot provide in-depth tech support or editing help.
  • Please wipe down the keyboard, mouse, and desk surface with disinfectant wipes after each use.
