BAY AREA VIDEO COALITION CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF SUPPORTING MEDIA MAKERS OF EVERY AGE AND DEMOGRAPHIC IN SAN FRANCISCO

Event will honor those who made the organization and its programs possible.

Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC Media) is celebrating its 40th anniversary by honoring founding members, donors, and visionaries who helped launch and sustain the organization over its 40 years. At the festive dinner, which is open to the public, BAVC Media will also make two exciting announcements about the organization’s future.

For four decades, BAVC Media has trained low-income youth and adults eager to learn new technologies, provided connections to employers and jobs, supported documentary film creation and distribution for artists that have gone on to win Emmys and been nominated for Academy Awards, operated San Francisco’s Public Access television stations, and preserved media for universities, archives and museums – from the Tate Modern to SFMoMA, and from Merce Cunningham to the San Francisco GLBT Historical Society.

The celebration will take place on November 17, 2016 at Bluxome Winery, 53 Bluxome Street in San Francisco, at 7:00pm. Individual ticket prices are $100-$200, with full table sponsorships for 10 guests from $5,000-$30,000. Public radio storyteller Glynn Washington (of Snap Judgment) will host.

At the event BAVC Media will honor the people, companies and institutions that were integral to BAVC Media’s founding and launching of mainstay programs.

Starting with classes in PortaPak video 40 years ago, BAVC Media now offers training in web development, UX design, coding, drone cinematography and virtual reality production. BAVC Media’s accomplishments include helping thousands of adults find media and tech jobs, supporting generations of low-income teens find their voice and enroll in higher education, and offering soup-to-nuts support to documentary filmmakers whose powerful stories have changed the world. This fundraiser will ensure that BAVC Media can continue to support 7,000 people annually.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to honor Howard Klein, the person whose contribution from the Rockefeller Foundation 40 years ago made our work possible. And to thank those who have made so much possible. We’ll also be sharing some exciting announcements about the near future and hope those who have supported us along the way, and those who have benefitted from our work, will join us for a festive look at our past and future,” said Carol Varney, BAVC Media’s Executive Director.

Founded in 1976, Bay Area Video Coalition’s mission is to inspire social change by empowering media makers to develop and share diverse stories through art, education and technology. Learn more about BAVC Media’s history, event honorees and the event.
