Who We Are

BAVC (pronounced BAY-vac) Media is a nearly 50 year old media arts nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire social change by empowering media makers to develop and share diverse stories through art, education and technology. Our creative youth development programs work with communities typically mis- or under-represented in mainstream media and tech fields. BAVC Media provides the resources and instruction that supports young people in engaging in our conditions for self-expression, community building, leadership development, and access to professional workforce development opportunities.

Our free after school youth program, Next Gen, helps young media makers between the ages of 14-17 tell their own stories through video, animation, and other media arts. In this program, we serve mainly low–income San Francisco students and use high-quality equipment and software in a supportive, collaborative environment. Next Gen is the winner of the 2023 SF Film “best youth program,” the 2017 San Francisco Magazine Best After School Program, and the 2016 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards.  Please note that all youth programming is currently in-person with the option for students who are exposed to COVID-19 or sick to attend virtually. Proof of vaccination and boosters required (medical or religious exemption with certified letter). The selected candidate also must pass a Live Scan background check and TB test as a condition of employment.
