MediaMaker Fellows at the 20th Camden International Film Festival
The 2024 BAVC MediaMaker Fellows traveled by plane and car from across the country to midcoast Maine for the 20th Camden International Film Festival.
It was a thrill and a pleasure to attend along with festival staff from the last two decades, documentary filmmakers from across the globe, and industry professionals who know that CIFF is something special.
We reunited with BAVC Media-supported filmmakers who were at CIFF to screen new films and pitch their latest projects.
Throughout the long weekend we participated in all of our favorite annual traditions (the Points North Pitch, the Town Hall, 1-on-1 industry meetings, group meals with new and old friends, lobster rolls by the water) and some new experiences too (toasting to NBCU supported filmmakers at Oyster River Winegrowers, the brass band at the late night karaoke party).
“Camden delivers!” Fellowship Co-Director, Dawn Valadez proclaims. “This year’s festival was filled with brilliant films, makers who work so hard to create bold nonfiction, and industry folks who care. I saw films that broke my heart and broke me open. The staff and programmers created an unforgettable experience. I’m proud of our MediaMaker Fellows for sharing their work and making connections.”
There was one big missing piece from this year’s experience, however – Fellowship Co-Director Jin Yoo-Kim who was not able to attend in person. Camden sparkled a little less this year without Jin’s irreplaceable presence, but she was with us virtually and will be meeting with filmmakers all week!
