Youth Engagement Specialist
Karolina Esqueda
As the Youth Engagement Specialist, Karolina Esqueda aims to provide support and assistance to BAVC Media’s Youth Programs’ team and students. Being a BAVC Media Bridges Fellowship alumni herself, she works towards finding ways to ensure student engagement and looking for ways to build community even in the virtual space. She’s currently the main point of reference for Youth Programs’s social media presence, so make sure to follow @BAVC Mediayouth!
Born in Tijuana, Mexico, filmmaker and visual artist, Karolina Esqueda grew up in between Tijuana and San Diego, sisters cities on the border between Mexico and the United States. Her experience as an edgewalker communicates and inspires much of her visual and performance art, in which she enjoys exploring the complexities of identity and multiculturalism.
Karolina graduated from UC Berkeley in 2018 with a degree in Media Studies and a minor in Theatre and Performance Studies. After graduation, she volunteered her time and camera operation expertise for events for the National Association for Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) Media Summit and for their Diverse Women in Media Forum. In spring 2019, Karolina was a Bridges Fellow at BAVC Media where she found a supportive and creative community.
