Launched by BAVC Media in 2007, the Producers Institute for New Media Technologies was a week-long social impact laboratory which brought together the world’s best social issue media makers with partner nonprofit organizations to work with leading technologists and mentors on developing transmedia tools and story assets to advance shared social change agendas.
The Producers Institute for New Media Technologies allowed independent producers to re-think socially relevant content in terms of emerging torytelling and distribution models. Documentary production teams from the US, Europe, and South America all came to BAVC Media to work with technologists, designers, storytellers, and programmers to develop new models of participatory media.
Past mentors from leading technology companies, including Adobe, Apple, Google, Mobile Active, Phantom Compass, Pentura, Map Office and others, worked in teams to design and develop working prototypes, which were then presented to international funding and review panels at the end of the Institute.
Projects from past Institutes include: The Waiting Room – a multiplatform community engagement project uncovering the needs of underserved patients in the health care system; The Way We Get By – a politics-free web resource connecting US troops in need of support with families and civilians; and Question Bridge – a web portal and an interactive museum installation designed to facilitate a collaborative dialogue about racial identity.
