How did you first hear about BAVC?

Through my friend Sarah Chapman who was a participant in Youth Radio.

Tell us your BAVC story.

My BAVC story. It started when I was 15 years old and I walked in to the confusing intersection where Telegraph and Broadway street where I was to have my audition to show my work to Davin Thompson (Do D.A.T). That day started what has now become a life of singing, songwriting, composing and recording. At BUMP Records I saw and experienced first hand creative young people collaborating to create a piece of music with words. My time at BUMP showed me vulnerability in a way I had not experienced before. It was a space where, despite the fact that I was not an R&B song writer, beat producer or rapper, I was still valued and fully supported in my path to find my creative voice and to give my best performance. BUMP was the first time I felt confident as a singer and songwriter/poet. This was one of a few support systems I was so lucky to have because they led me to pursue music academically. 6 years later, I am now a graduating senior getting a conservatory degree (B.M.) in Music Composition and Theory from Boston University. I am indebted to BAVC and BUMP Records specifically for giving me performance skills, support in my voice, and confidence in a field where I, a woman of color, am a minority in centuries of white men who have made the western music history. I aspire to be a mentor and educator and help young people who just need someone to listen to them and say that their voice is valuable and creative and deserves to be shared. BUMP, thank you for helping make me who I am today.

Why do you think others should get involved at BAVC?

BAVC gives you tools to collaborate with other artists and to engage with the community around you.
